I love this version because King Kong looks and moves so realistically even though he was created through the magic of special effects.
Gorillas In The Mist (1988)
This movie is based on the true life story of Dian Fossey, a scientist who worked with primates in Africa. Sadly, she was murdered in 1985. The movie stars Sigourney Weaver who does an excellent job of playing Dian Fossey.
Tarzan
There are lots of movies about the lord of the jungle – Tarzan. My favorites though are the ones starring Johnny Weissmuller. Apart from Tarzan my favorite character has to be Cheeta the chimpanzee. The movies would be a lot less funny if it weren’t for Cheeta.

surely most of the people out there know what Fawlty Towers is? One of the best British sitcoms if not the best starring John Cleese se as the hilarious Basil Fawlty, Prunella Scales as Sybil Fawlty and of course who could forget Andrew Sachs as Manuel! The real question to ask is why on earth did Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth (Polly) decide to have the programme set in Torquay?
Experience
With programmes like this one you will find that people base things a lot on the experiences that they have had and this one is no different. In fact Cleese based his own character on a hotel owner that he had spotted when staying in a hotel on Torquay when filming with the people from the Monty Python team.
This happened when the team booked to stay in the Gleneagles hotel in 1970 and Cleese became fascinated with some of the things the hotel owner was doing to the guests. There was a quote from John Cleese and it is “the most marvellously rude man I’ve ever met”. One of the things Cleese saw was the owner throwing a timetable at a guest asking about bus times and another was him taking Eric Idles briefcase out into the garden because he though a bomb was in it. (There was a ticking alarm clock in it). After the rest of the cast left the hotel Cleese and Booth stayed behind at the hotel to research the hotel manager further and it was this that Basil Fawlty was born from.
of course when it comes to going to Torquay there is no way you would visit a place like this, there is no hotel this bad of course. It is worth thinking about one of those spa breaks or family holidays when it comes to this as it is something that people enjoy. Is it too early to think about Christmas hotels Torquay?

I just love the scenes where David Banner’s shirt tears apart as he transforms in the Hulk. Lou Ferrigno was the Hulk in the TV series which ran for 5 seasons from 1978. David Banner was played by Bill Bixby.
Lou Ferrigno was an inspired choice for the Incredible Hulk. This 6ft 5 inch hunk of muscle was originally a bodybuilder who won Mr America and Mr Universe in 1969 and came second in the Mr Olympia competition in 1974. He also came fourth in the World’s Strongest Man contest in 1977. Did you know that he was in competition for the part with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Richard Kiel? But he was the one who was signed by Universal Studios as the Incredible Hulk.
The Incredible Hulk was the creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics. The Hulk as he was originally known, first appeared in 1962 as the alter ego of Dr Bruce Banner. It is interesting to note that for the TV series, the producers decided to change his name from Bruce to David. Various reasons for this have been put about, but according to Stan Lee, they thought Bruce Banner sounded like a “gay character” name and that David sounded more masculine. Whatever the reason, they kept Bruce as the Hulk’s middle name.
According to the TV series, David Banner was exposed to gamma radiation in his job as a physicist. The radiation came form a test detonation. It was the gamma radiation which mutated David’s body chemistry and caused him to transform into the huge and super-strong green-skinned Hulk When David returned to his normal state, he would have no memory of being the Hulk. He would come back to himself with tattered clothing and no knowledge of what had happened to him. His clothing bill must have been enormous! Anyway, from then on he became a fugitive from the military and his adventures ran and ran.
Since then there have various movies including Hulk (2003) with Eric Bana and The Incredible Hulk (2008) starring Edward Norton. In both these movies, the Hulk was computer generated.
Unfortunately, the computer generated effects in the movies were not as realistic as the use of an actor. I still feel that Lou Ferrigno gave the best portrayal of the Hulk.
I dressed up as the Hulk last Halloween – I love the character so much. I definitely made a big entrance!
