Censorship: Does it work?

This point came to me while I was watching Cannibal Ferox with friends the other night. While watching the movie it came to a point where the captives are going to be tortured or eaten by the cannibal tribe, the only problem is i cant tell you which one actually happened as the whole scene had been cut out. We have no clue what had happened -all we knew was it cant have been pretty and thanks to be bbfc, we’d missed out.

So we really need protecting from movies? Considering watching them now, more than 25 years on you have to wonder why they were taken seriously in the first place. Would society really collaspe if we were allowed to view these movies fully?

The video nasty act of the 80s wasnt an attack on free speech, but for many of these films it was the greatest piece of publicity they could ever recieve. Banned movies obtain a mythical status because they are banned -were not allow to see them, so we want to see them all the more. Looking at the films thta grace our cinemas and dvd players nowadays, saw as the Saws and the Hostels, is there anything that was shown back then that these movies are showing now that are any different? The ‘uncut’ dvd versions of these films come across more as a marketing ploy rather than general censorship.

Wii game Manhunt 2 was banned until the developer blurred out the killings scenes, which only made people want to play it -but the censors shouldnt have worried -after becoming bored with the kill scenes the game has poor controls and little replay value.

Censorship is supposed to ‘protect’ the public from devient artists -but shouldnt we have the choice over whether to view said entertainment for ourselves? Rather than cutting films to the point of being left with a unitelligible film because of the cuts. To take a quote from the marketing campaign of banned film ‘Last house on the left’: ‘Its only a movie’.

But Murron is captured and executed by the king’s emissaries. Annoyed by his better half’s murder, Wallace starts a local rebellion, massacring all of the king’s loyalists in his village. As his rebellion grows, a upset Longshanks [ Patrick McGoohan ] dispatches his mythical Northern armed forces to break it. But the courageous Wallace delivers a stirring speech to wake his men, whilst employing an inventive battleground trick to defeat the king’s cavalry. With the power and legend of Wallace growing day by day, Longshanks depends on his daughter-in-law, Princess Isabelle [ Sophie Marceau ] to broker a truce. 

But Isabelle’s power is limited, and Wallace realizes his folk can only win liberty if backed by the Scottish nobles. Their chosen leader is Robert the Bruce [ Angus MacFadyen ] who oscillates between his own idealistic perspectives and his pop’s pessimistic pragmatism. Does the nobles join with Wallace? Will the Scots win their freedom? Only history tells us the answer With intricate costumes, clear battle scenes, and a noble hero as its focal point, Braveheart is more than your standard run-of-the-mill action film. 

Part history, part Hollywood heroism its undying idealism hits a rope with each spectator. In reality, the flick itself led on to a resurrection in patriotic pride that fueled the successful Scottish independence movement of the 1990s. It is a tribute to the strength and character of the genuine life William Wallace. A thousand years on, his enduring inheritance continues to seriously change the ECU landscape, and Mel Gibson captures the noble soldier’s keenness with an awesome Academy prize-winning masterwork.

There is Quite A Story behind the Dr Who Scarf

There is only really one true Dr Who scarf, and that has got to be the fourth Doctors scarf.  This was a long knitted, bohemian style scarf which flapped around and made the Doctor easily distinguishable.

The history of the fourth doctors scarf is not quite as simple as one would guess.  The scarf started off at thirteen and a half feel long when it was introduced during season twelve.  This was however a little too unwieldy, and inbetween filming the Sontaran Experience and the Ark in Space a section of blue grey was removed.  During the Ark in Space the scarf gets blasted by a security system which leaves a small hole in the purple beige end of the scarf.The scarf then stayed unchanged for the duration of the season.

The scarf was trimmed again at the beginning of season thirteen to a mere twelve foot.The Dr Who scarf stayed like this for the rest of season thirteen.

Season fourteen saw a confusing time for the Dr Who scarf, there were actually two used during filming, one was ten and a half feet long, while the other was only ten feet long.  In most of the episodes of this season the shorter scarf is used for indoor filming, while the longer one is used on outdoor shoots.There is one anomaly, the scarves are switched around in the Hand of Fear the scarves.

There is one longer version of the Dr Who scarf, a whooping seventeen foot scarf.This is used in three of the episodes; Image of the Fendahl, Underworld and Invasion of Time.Strangely enough, this Dr Who scarf design had the shortest life on screen of any of the scarves.

The BBC did release the design for the Dr Who scarf, however, the version of the scarf they produced was actually the third and not the original version.

In the final two seasons of the multicolored Dr Who scarf, it was quite severely adapted.  This scarf was a combination of two previously used scarves.This was finally replaced in the fourth Doctors last season, season eighteen, with a striped burgundy scarf.This burgundy scarf started off at around twenty feet, but stretched to a massive twenty four feet during the season.
